The latest Netflix series, “13 Reasons Why” is shining a light on many difficult issues facing today’s youth such as bullying, sexual assault, substance use and abuse, sexual identity, and suicide.  The series focuses on the challenges that led, Hannah Baker a 17-year-old high school junior, to take her own life.

The following “13 Reasons Why” Netflix Series: Considerations for Educators guide provides school faculty and staff with words of caution, a review of suicide risk warning signs, suggestions for when to make referrals, guidance for families, and messages and resources to keep all students safe.

Congratulations Dr. Melissa Garcia


Dr. Melissa Garcia was one of four outstanding Florida educators who received the Governor’s Shine Award on April 11, 2017, in Tallahassee, FL.  Dr. Garcia is a school counselor at Seminole Ridge Community High School in Palm Beach County.  She was the 2015-2016 Palm Beach County School Counselor of the Year and the 2016-2017 Florida School Counselor Association’s School Counselor of the Year.

  • Current graduate student enrolled in a FL School Counseling Program

  • Current FSCA Member
