FSCA BOARD OF DIRECTORS CALL FOR NOMINATIONS

The Florida School Counselor Association (FSCA) is soliciting candidates for its Board of Directors. Please help identify the next generation of Florida’s school counseling leaders by seeking a Board of Director’s seat, or by encouraging those you believe to be talented leaders in your area to self-nominate.

Nomination packets will be accepted from February 1-28, 2019.  FSCA members can cast their votes on-line from March 1-31, 2019. The term of office will begin on July 1, 2019 and end on June 30, 2022. During the 2019 election cycle, FSCA seeks to fill four (4) Board of Director positions. Those candidates receiving the four highest number of votes are considered elected to the FSCA Board of Directors and shall serve a three-year term. 

Members of the Board of Directors do not receive any financial compensation for their service although they are reimbursed travel expenses and other costs according to FSCA policies on reimbursement. Those who have been involved have recognized the benefits of this leadership experience which includes networking, learning about school counseling issues, developing strategies to advocate for the profession, collegiality, and excellent professional and personal development. FSCA makes every attempt to schedule travel during weekends to minimize board members’ time away from school.

Expectations and Responsibilities of a Board Member

May:  Board-Elect, re-familiarize with the By-Laws and materials distributed by the Chair of the Board of Directors

June:  Plan to attend the End of Year-Board Transition Meeting 

Once seated:

1. Participate in monthly Board meetings. Most monthly meetings are done via a call-in conference call.  
2. One or two meetings are held face-to-face, generally at the end of June and prior to the annual FSCA Convention. The purpose of Board meetings is to conduct the business of the Board in fulfilling the FSCA Mission and Goals of the Association;
3. Serve as a liaison to at least one of the FSCA Committees;
4. Represent FSCA at professional school counseling and educationally-related events that support the FSCA Mission and Goals;
5. Contribute to the planning of the annual FSCA Convention before, during, and after the Convention;
6. Maintain a current membership in good standing with FSCA and with ASCA;
7. Other requests as needed.
