2020 FSCA Convention, Special Covid-19 Announcement

A COVID-19 ANNOUNCEMENT May 18, 2020

RE: FSCA 2020 Convention

To Florida School Counselors and our Colleagues:

Each year, Florida School Counselors look forward to coming together for professional learning, renewed relationships and networking, and inspiration and rejuvenation, all with the purpose to provide the most current and relevant services possible to our students and their families. Each year, the FSCA Convention Committee commits to deliver exceptional experiences and professional learning opportunities to convention attendees. With the Convention still months away, the 2020 Convention committee is planning to deliver a first-rate convention at the Hilton Daytona Beach Oceanfront Resort. We are excited to be in such a beautiful setting this year for attendees. We also recognize that currently, times are uncertain, and there are many ‘what if” scenarios that may challenge us in these coming months.

Each year, FSCA has ensured the health and safety of Florida school counselors and associates who attend the Convention. This too is a long-standing priority and is even more so for 2020. We want you to know that we are closely monitoring the Florida Department of Health COVID-19 announcements, and we will follow all State regulations set forth to ensure health and safety measures are followed for participants. Should the 2020 Convention be forced to cancel because of a “force majeure” event, government restrictions, or hotel restrictions, please know that the Convention Committee will look at all available options including a virtual conference or conference cancellation (in which case your registration would be fully refunded).

We are very hopeful that we will be together on October 29-31. In consideration of the circumstances, this is the third-year registration rates have not increased, yet the quality for every aspect of the convention maintained. Recognizing too that the Convention ends on Saturday, October 31, the schedule has been developed to end before noon on Saturday so everyone can return home for Halloween festivities. Or, you may want to consider having your family join you at the Hilton and enjoy the phenomenal views and beach atmosphere.

We will keep you updated on the status of the Convention, and we look forward to seeing you ‘in person’, not virtually on a screen.

Peace and safety to you each day.
