Working with Unmotivated and Challenging Students

Dr. Glenn Lambie, University of Central Florida

Many students with whom professional school counselors regularly work are "unmotivated and "resistant" to change. Motivational Counseling was designed specifically for student-clients with these qualities and has been found effective with difficult client populations. This workshop will: (a) identify the developmental challenges of working with early adolescents and adolescents, (b) introduce the theoretical constructs and research supporting Motivational Counseling, (c) review practical strategies for supporting change with unmotivated students, and (d) present case illustrations with students.
