School Counselor of the Year Nomination The School Counselor of the Year program, presented by Naviance and the American School Counselor Association (ASCA), is open to full-time practicing school counselors in U.S.-based schools who've completed at least five years of service as a school counselor. Nominees must be an ASCA member and must be practicing school counselors at the time of the awards ceremony (January 2010). U.S.-based schools includes all schools operated by the U.S. Department of Defense, U.S. Department of State and other U.S. agencies. 2009 School Counselor of the Year finalists may not re-apply for three years; 2009 semi-finalists may re-apply at any time. Nominations close on July 17, 2009.
