Once again this fall the annual FCA/FSCA convention (the 57th) will be held in Orlando at The Florida Hotel and Conference Center, adjacent to the Florida Mall. The convention begins on Thursday, November 16 with the pre-convention workshops and breakout sessions. Our opening address will be Thursday night at 8:00. We are pleased to present Margaret "Peggy" Land as our kick-off speaker at the opening session. She is a seasoned educator and a keen observer of human nature who utilizes wit, personal experiences, and story telling to help individuals understand and reach for success. The Keynote speaker on Friday is Ken Green, a dedicated advocate who inspires those who hear him to work for equal access. This year's convention promises to provide opportunities for professional and personal growth with over 50 individual sessions, 6 Pre-convention and 3 Post-convention workshops. And of course, the infamous and entertaining Counselor Idol will provide an opportunity for networking and fun for all. Workshops include Cultural Competencies, the Student Success Skills Program (both classroom and group), and even a 21st century topic, the Wild, Wild Internet and Cyber Bullying.
Putting on a convention of this caliber requires extensive assistance in the form of on-site volunteers. Brochures with convention registration forms are in the mail. Convention registration is $95 for members, with on-site registration available for $125 for members. Space in the Pre-and Post-convention workshops is limited, so be sure to register early. There is an October 20 deadline for lodging at the convention hotel at the guaranteed rate of $99.00 plus applicable taxes. Contact The Florida Hotel direct at 800-588-4656 to book your rooms.
