At this time of year, the Florida School Counselor Association (FSCA) Board solicits candidates for its Governing Board. Please helping us identify the next generation of Florida’s school counseling leadership by seeking an elected office or by encouraging those you believe to be talented leaders in your area to become candidates for one of the following FSCA offices:

President Elect (President-Elect, President, Past-President) 2012-2015

High School Level Vice President, 2012-2014

Post Secondary Level Vice President, 2012-2014

Region 1 Vice President, (Panhandle) 2012-2014 (Bay, Calhoun, Escambia, Franklin, Gadsden, Gulf, Holmes, Jackson Jefferson, Leon, Liberty, Madison, Okaloosa, Santa Rosa, Taylor, Wakulla, Walton, Washington)

Region 3 Vice President, (East Central) 2012-2014 (Brevard, Indian River, Lake, Martin, Okeechobee, Orange, Osceola, Seminole, St. Lucie, Sumter, Volusia, Flagler)

Region 5 Vice President, (South) 2012-2014 (Broward, Miami-Dade, Hendry, Monroe, Palm Beach)

Elections will be held later this year and terms of office begin on July 1 and end on June 30. The deadline for turning in a nomination packet is January 19th, 2012 at midnight.

While there are some face-to-face meetings and responsibilities, most of the duties of board members are accomplished using technology -- telephone, e-mail, or snail mail. All Governing Board members are expected to participate in all FSCA Board meetings, the annual convention (in St. Petersburg, FL. for 2012), and the Summer Academy in June (location to be determined). Board members may also be asked to represent FSCA at state or regional meetings, professional development, and other professional activities.

Members of the Governing Board do not receive any financial compensation for their service however; they are reimbursed for travel expenses and other costs. Those who have been involved have recognized the other benefits of this leadership experience that includes networking, learning about school counseling issues and strategies to advocate for the profession and for school counseling issues, collegiality, and professional and personal development. FSCA makes every attempt to schedule travel during weekends to minimize board members’ time away from school.

Those interested in becoming board members should complete the Nominations and Elections packet found below. You may email it directly to me at electionsfsca@gmail.com. Please contact me, or the FSCA office, if you have any questions.

Sincerely,

Curtis T. Jenkins
