Monica Bayer, the 2007 Florida High School Counselor of the Year, taken at the Florida School Counseling Association Awards Luncheon. Monica is a high school counselor at Buchholz High School. Congratulations Monica! And special thanks to the Alachua County school counselors & administrators who attended the FSCA Awards Luncheon to celebrate this wonderful accomplishment with Monica.

Supervisor Advocate Award winner - Karalia Baldwin of Pinellas County Public Schools. Karalia gave a rousing speech to the group about advocating for students. She urged counselors to, "Beat down those closed doors!" Karalia's message was well received by the audience of school counselors from all levels.

Elementary Counselor winner- Ana Maria Leon from Wilton Manors (Broward Co.) was nominated by Dr. Greg Brigman for her outstanding work as an Elementary Counselor.

Middle School Counselor winner - Pamela D. Houle from Oak Grove Middle School in Pinellas County spoke with passion about her commitment to the students at her school. She says, "It's all about the kids."

High School counselor winner - Monica Bayer of Buchholz High School in Alachua County credits her principal and the school's leadership for creating a climate that is counselor friendly and protects her time so that students' needs are the priority for the counselors at Buchholz.

School-based Administrator winner - Dr. Nancy Lucas from Emerald Cove Middle School in Palm Beach county was nominated by her school counselor, Janelle Leatherman. Together for 10 years as counselor and administrator, Dr. Lucas and Janelle Leatherman have formed a meaningful partnership that benefits students. Last year, they worked together to achieve the RAMP designation for Freedom Shores Elementary in Palm Beach County.

Guest speaker, Grace Wilhelm (RAMP award winner from Darnell-Cookman Middle School in Jacksonville, FL) spoke of her experience as she pursued the RAMP award for her school. She encourage everyone to believe in themselves, go home, document accomplishments, and tell others what good things are happening in the schools of Florida.
